We associate the word ‘passion’ with something fiery, a pursuit that comes so naturally you can’t fight it. Like, “if you find your passion you’ll never have to work another day in your life”.
Unfortunately, this is a big fat lie.
Passion derives from the latin word pati, to suffer. So, discovering your passion is not about being effortlessly #successful, #grateful and #happy forever after.
It’s about commitment, sacrifice and dedication.
This is hard to truly fathom when we live in a social media world, where everyone seems to be achieving all kinds of awesome things without any apparent hard slog. Won an award! Launched a new business! Wrote a book! Got a six-pack!
We get a snapshot of the end result, with little or no exposure to the challenge days and setbacks, the doubts and misgivings, or the constant process of finding and re-finding the passion that got them to that point.
Following your passion means doing something that makes your heart beat faster, but also makes you willing to grit your teeth and persevere through hardship and challenge. It’s the passion which reminds you, in those moments, that there is a higher goal which gives you the faith to keep going.
So, it’s not just about discovering what you love to do. Unfortunately! I mean wow: I’d just hike, eat, travel, sup wine and sleep the rest of my life – done. No complaints.
In fact, finding your passion is more complex. It means finding faith in who you are and what you have to offer the world.
That’s why, if you’re looking to imbue your life with more passion, working with a coach can be so helpful. Curious? Hit me up.
